Marvin was born in Decatur to Marlow Saunders, a licensed and ordained Southern Baptist Minister and Deacon. Marvin's mother was Mildred Saunders, a faithful servant and loving wife and mother. He has two sisters, Becky Harrison of Decatur, Kay Saunders of Ft. Worth, and two brothers, Gordon Saunders of Arlington, and Ron Saunders of Bowie. Marvin is married to Berdessa, who is the church accompanist. Marvin and Berdessa have three sons: Benjamin and Chase and Chris, who both attend Decatur High School.
Marvin graduated from Howard Payne University in 1987 with a BA in music. He also holds a MM in Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he graduated in 1991. He received a teacher’s certification from TWU in 1997 for Elementary Self-Contained and Music. He's certified to teach Teen Leadership, and has attended various workshops and training seminars for classroom teaching.
Marvin is currently the Choir Director at the Decatur Intermediate School and the Minister of Music at Sycamore Baptist Church . He has held both positions since 1995.
Before coming home to Decatur , he was the Minister of Music at FBC Kingsland, Texas, FBC Dublin, Texas, and FBC Cross Plains, Texas. He has lead worship for various revivals and has been to Mexico and Europe on foreign mission trips. In addition he has done multiple local mission trips. Marvin has been involved in World Changers as well as touring with various singing groups, and has been involved with various mission efforts with youth groups. |
